Graphic Design = Visual Problem Solving

The end goal of graphic design is to create something that’s pleasing to the eye, serves a purpose and grabs the attention of the viewer – but things can’t just look cool; they have to work and accurately represent your brand. The Sutter Group’s graphic designers see each design as an opportunity to do some visual problem solving. Whether the challenge is to create a print collateral piece, an interactive presentation, or environmental graphics display, we rise to the challenge.

The Different Types of Graphic Design

Although web graphic design is the most prevalent form of design in today’s digitally connected society, graphic design is present in most forms of marketing. There is graphic design for email, the web, print, brand development, outdoor advertising and environmental graphics. They’re each important and should be executed beautifully and flawlessly. That’s why it’s so important each design associated with your company does the best job possible of representing what you need it to. If you’re in the Washington, DC Metropolitan area, you’re in luck - TSG graphic designers are masters at graphic design in any medium!

What Defines a TSG Graphic Designer?

Collaborative
We work in an open office environment. This allows the designers and copy developers to frequently bounce ideas off of each other and provides a place for “free flow” of thought. We believe collaboration is key for producing the best graphic designs possible, and challenging each other’s ideas is encouraged to strengthen the final product. In our case, aggregation of design ideas produces the best graphic designs.

Inventive
Our graphic designers are always coming up with new techniques to apply to their designs and are constantly scanning to see what the best in the industry are doing. It’s how we continue to push ourselves. Our graphic designers are strongly encouraged to sharpen their skills and enrich their design knowledge and inspiration by practicing new design techniques and gathering inspiration from the design world. Yes, we spend a lot of time on FWA and Behance.

Gutsy
Our graphic designers aren’t afraid to think outside of the box and work on graphic solutions that push the edge. In fact, we encourage our designers to push the edge! In today’s crowded and competitive marketplace, the “safe” solutions are rarely the best ones. If you need someone to develop design with teeth, TSG’s got you covered.

Examples of Our Graphic Design Brilliance

Branding for SKYLouver
SKYLouver is a startup company that manufactures high technology sustainable industrial sky lighting systems. They came to TSGto create a brand identity that would give them the credibility they needed to go to market. This is an ongoing project, but the logo and materials we have developed so far have provided a modern, attractive baseline for further development. Environmental Graphics for the Department of Energy
The Department of Energy's Office of Environmental Management (EM) wanted an environmental graphics design that spanned the entire length of the hall in order to educate visitors on the Agency's mission. We conceptualized and designed an immersive environmental graphics display that made use of the Agency's library of graphics and photographs. Using an overlay of the EM office, we systematically created an experience that led users on a journey to learn about the many ways EM achieves its goal of the cleanup and removal of the nuclear waste that has resulted from nuclear energy research and weapons development.

Website Design for Genovation
As a car company building a PHEV in an increasingly competitive market, Genovation needed a sleek and sophisticated site put together quickly to promote the PHEV. We rose to the design and execution challenge. TSG put together a detailed information architecture for the site, which included a site map, content map and detailed series of wireframes. Based on the approved wireframes, we developed design concepts for the site that highlighted the vehicle's sophisticated design and engineering. The site was then developed on an ExpressionEngine CMS platform in less than two weeks so the site was live in time for the event. Learn more about our web graphic design for Genovation.

Print design for Herman Stewart Brochure
Herman Stewart works on some amazingly beautiful and well-constructed projects. For example, they’ve built 35 Caribou Coffee stores, which are each stunning and full of architectural and design detail. The problem is they also need to appeal to customers who expect incredible work, but don’t have the budget to match. Our brief: create a brochure that showcases the photography but doesn’t make Herman Stewart look “too expensive.” We built them a winner – check out the brochure here

Email Design for Baltimore Ravens
TSG was asked to create a series of email templates for each of the Baltimore Ravens’ fan clubs. Six different emails were created and sent, and they looked awesome. You can view them here.
